Llafur Spring Series 2022: Heritage, Landscape and Tourism
Online
Event Date: 24/03/2022
Episode 2: Workers’ Holidays and Seaside Resorts
From Llandudno and Rhyl in the north, to Barry and Porthcawl in the south, Wales has produced a tradition of seaside resorts. Often significant urban meeting places and ‘nodes of sociability’ as Andy Croll has described, these resorts were also, in part, by-products of broader campaigns for annual worker’s holidays that began in the mid-nineteenth century. With particular reference to North Wales, please join us and our guest speakers Susan Barton and Debbie Owen for an exploration of the history and heritage of seaside resorts and working-class popular tourism.
